Jonathan Horowitz

Arapahoe's Race Track Announcer

Jonathan Horowitz, 27, began announcing when he was 14 and became the youngest person ever to call a horse race in the United States at California’s Los Alamitos Race Course in 1999.  He is currently the announcer at Arapahoe Park outside Denver and Zia Park in Hobbs, New Mexico.  He has called at 20 racetracks in the United States and Great Britain, and for several years he was the American guest announcer at the Glorious Goodwood Festival in Chichester, England.​

Horowitz also hosts the "A Day at the Races" television show on Altitude Sports.  At the racetracks at which he announces he conducts classes about horse racing, writes articles and updates the racetracks’ website, maintains the racetracks’ Facebook and Twitter, writes handicapping sheets, and writes and records television commercials.

Horowitz holds a master’s degree in kinesiology specializing in sports business and statistics from the University of Maryland, College Park.  In addition to announcing, he works in the Publishing Office at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., assisting author Susan Reyburn on a new book titled Football Nation about football’s history and influence on business, politics and culture in the United States.  At the Library of Congress he also contributed to a book entitled Presidential Campaign Posters and edited Perspectives on the Hebraic Book.  He is also the author of The One and Only: A Sports Quiz Deck of Definitive Games, Teams, Players, and Events, published by Pomegranate Communications in 2012.
